  1. Just stumbled across this from a posting in the Marvel Comics 1961-86 facebook page. Wonderful podcast. Sorry I’ve been missing it prior to this. Thanks for sharing the passion.

  2. So the Hulk fights the FF and Avengers in FF #25-26, helps out in Avengers #5, and now fights Spider-Man in #14. In today’s comics, this would sound like an event crossover story leading up to a big new comic! And with the upcoming change in Tales to Astonish, it kinda is. Geez, Marvel knew how to promote even in 1964.

I’ve read extremely little of original Green Goblin, so it’s very cool to see the introduction of the first truly mysterious villain. Of course, Hobgoblin was my jam. It’s a joy to see the parallels here. And there must be something about goblin masks that need to be kept on a dummy head. That visual is used tons. Love it.

About Peter and making money as Spider-Man. At least his motivation is to support Aunt May since they’re struggling, unlike his origin where he was looking to get rich-n-famous. Maybe it’s not a coincidence that so many of his foes wear green. Vulture, Dr Octopus, Mysterios, Electro, Sandman, Green Goblin. Is there a metaphor, intentional or not, that “green” is Peter’s constant enemy?

I don’t mind FF having team-ups. In fact, it’s downright novel. But yeah, I’m ready to focus on Marvel’s first family.

Until the Terrible Trio recruits a new member and becomes the Quizzical Quartet, make mine Make Ours Marvel.
