The Avengers #48: I know Dane Whitman Black Knight mostly from Roger Stern’s run in the 200s, and you guys asked if he’s much of a scientist. In that era, he’s definitely “the science guy” of the team, while also carrying around sharp pointy thing for stabbings. And by then, he trades his yellow cape for a black one, so his name fits *much* better.
Sheesh, the Magneto story doesn’t really move forward at all, and Toad is so bloodthirsty! “Kill them master! They should die, master! They looked at me funny, and probably have overdue library books, finish them master!” Oh, and there’s one panel where the sound effect for Toad’s jumping is “BOUND! BOUND!” That’s hilarious.
The X-Men #40: Sure, Frankenstein, whatever, how about Scott’s origin? It’s ok, but I really how it wraps up. And I think the timing’s wild that Jack O Diamonds is trying to recruit Scott, while Doc Ock is trying to trick amnesiac Spider-Man. Oddly similar stories.
Amazing Spider-Man #57: Speaking of, I’m likewise shocked that the amnesia is still a thing! I’m getting more nervous than I should, because this is ruining Peter’s personal life, and it’s just a comic book, Tim!
Oh, and Jon, I loved the new She-Ra series! I introduced my kids to it, but they lost interest after a while, which was a shame but I watched it all myself, and just fantastic! And Bow’s abs must be FREE!!!!
Tony Stark’s girlfriends. Ok, that was in the previous episode, but I didn’t have time to write last week. Two thoughts. A decade or so ago, Comedy Central aired a celebrity roast of Hugh Hefner. In the audience were his girlfriends, all 10 of them, at a huge table for themselves: blond, young, gorgeous, and probably not getting half of the jokes. I’m pretty sure Hugh and Tony hang out together.
Also, did you ever watch Murphy Brown, and the running gag where she got a new secretary every week? Then there was an episode where ALL of the former secretaries had an intervention with Murphy. … um, I don’t know what that means.
Another fine episode! Until next time, or until you reach the point where I entered the world*, make mine Make Ours Marvel!
* Yes, I was born with the period covered by issues in this episode! That’s why I would’ve been crushed if the podcast had stopped any sooner! But now, eh whatever.
