Thor #112: Wow, an issue devoted to expanding a small moment from another comic, namely the Avengers #3 Hulk/Thor fight! I had no idea this was done so early in Marvel. A later favorite of mine in this style was Thor #383, retelling a 3-page fight in Secret Wars between all of the villains and Thor. Amazing to see in the olden days!
I could swear at one point during the Loki story I heard “Lucky”. Now I want Loki to adopt a labrador puppy with that name. “Time to finish my next plan to destroy Thor! Wait. What’s this on my cauldron? NO LUCKY! BAD FAMILIAR!”
X-Men #9: Yep, super-teams gotta be fighting. “No time to explain, we can handle it.” “We’re better equipped, we’ll handle it!” “No, we will!” “No, you’re bozos!” “You stink!” Ah, teamwork.
The least they could’ve done with Lucifer is tie him to Magneto with them sharing a color scheme. But no, his only other appearance I remember is in West Coast Avengers, and has nothing to do with Professor X, and Lucifer’s involvement in that story is hardly acknowledged. I agree Jon, completely insignificant.
Tales to Astonish #64: Jan gives a message to an ant, and the story says the ant delivers it to Hank. Not that the message is passed along. This ant travels across the ocean, to personally tell Hank! So that ant and Rick Jones have the same travel agent. Where do I sign up?
“The Hulk, the only comic book soap opera!” I did a triple take when I read that. Are you kidding me? These stories are just as ongoing as Iron Man’s, with him stuck in the armor. And Spider-Man’s continual problems in school and with money and girls and AUGH!
Until Prof X’s Action Chair replaces him as leader of the X-Men, make mine Make Ours Marvel!
