  1. On my early Avengers read-thru, I was pretty surprised to see Zemo referred to as “Doctor” rather than “Baron”. And thank you guys for filling in that these were his first appearances. I still thought he was introduced earlier. That makes for a crazy situation, where he’s not around very long, and then appears far more in flashbacks. Ah the history lessons. Love it!

    “The Softener.” You’re welcome.

And we have the Sub-Mariner. Again. Maybe you guys have already addressed this, but he seems to be in Kirby issues only. Is it maybe that Kirby likes drawing Namor? Or that Stan likes how Jack draws Namor?

I recall more than once in the Claremont era of X-Men that there’s some connection between Magneto’s powers and telepathy. But boy, they really push it awkwardly in this issue. “He controls his power … WITH HIS MIND!” Isn’t that what Human Torch does? Can Johnny send a flaming astral projection of himself? Would it be stopped by water? It’s not necessarily made of fire.

Seeing Prof X’s astral self walking into the ocean just tickles me, as it’s only depicted as walking. Can it only move as fast as Prof X can walk? Did it walk all the way to Atlantis?

Is X-Men #6 the issue referred to in the future as establishing that Namor is a mutant? If so, I really didn’t see the rationale I was waiting for. “His wings are not a trait of humans nor Atlanteans, thus marking him as a mutant.” What the heck?

Until Captain America fights the Phoenix, no, not that Phoenix, the other Phoenix, make mine Make Ours Marvel.
