FF #43: Lo, bout TIME for an ending! I kid, this was an excellent story arc. Sue damaging the brainwashing machine. Johnny being savvy enough to pretend he was evil. Reed doing brain surgery-but-not-really-more-like-talking-into-a-microphone-so-it’s-the-same-thing-right? Ben being dragged around like a balloon was a riot. And putting the kibosh on the evil FF. But Johnny letting Medusa escape because… uh… the plot… Meh, besides that, really great issue.
Strange Tales #137: Nick Fury is full-on James Bond now, and a fun read. I was geniunely surprised that the agents failed to get the goober back to SHIELD, so that was great to show the stakes are high and HYDRA isn’t just losers. But yes Michael, I agree, it’s a step backward for the woman HYDRA to be the daughter of the leader. Sigh.
Ah Dr Strange’s big story of staring at his unconscious mentor and thinking REALLY HARD. Sorry, it wasn’t really that bad. Ditko was still putting out some interesting visuals, and I can see this being pretty compelling as a scene in a movie. But only for like 2 minutes. And now Strange has finally found the path to Eternity! Just barely escaping Baron Mor-dumb. “Curses, foiled again!”
Tales of Suspense #70: Iron vs Titanium part Deux. Dang it, I can’t remember the movie, but there’s one where one guy runs out of bullets, asks for a time out, the other guy agrees, but as soon as the first guy steps out second guy fires, and first guy shouts “LIAR!” The time out in this story reminded me of that.
But Happy! He finally got to do something, and got totally red shirted! Noooooooo!
Cap versus Nazi castle. I kept waiting for the shrinking ray. I mean, that was a big deal. I can hear scientist guy now.
“You want shrinking ray, you got it!” ”
Yeah, we’re going in another direction. We’re thinking giant missile.”
“Oh. So you want me to shrink it down as a sneak attack?”
“Noooo, we’re sticking with the giant part.”
“But where does that leave me?”
“Yeah, funny you should ask…”
