It’s great hearing you guys enjoying the Sgt Fury comics. You’re really tempting me to give them a try, but finding the time to spare, urgh.
Journey Into Mystery though has made the cut. That’s just a great bonkers story. Various thoughts:
1. Odin is way too powerful. Putting everyone human on earth into limbo-like realm? Even the Atlanteans? Did he move the animals, too? Mosquitos? Undersea life? The mind boggles!
2. Seeing pre-Simonson Surtur is pretty underwhelming. Simonson’s version is the only one I’ve known, gigantic with flaming head/hair, so much more intimidating.
3. Odin must be thinking “if I give Loki some responsibility, he’ll come around.” He just doesn’t learn!
4. How powerful IS Loki that he can empower a giant against Odin, whom we’ve already established in hella powerful? That’s been a great perspective from your show. It’s easy to forget Loki is god-level powerful, too!
I actually read that issue of X-Men in a reprint a long time ago! It may have been Amazing Adventures, as it looks like that series split up the issue into two comics. I remember it had a backup featuring Cyclops first meeting Iceman.
What is it with Marvel’s father figures being the worst? I’m looking at you, Prof X! That was the dickiest of dick moves ever! “Good job not dying today. Everyone gets chocolate pudding with dinner tonight!” Wow, he’s just … wow.
This is my first time putting a comment on the website itself, just to try it. Thanks, guys!
